Turnover and seniority, overview of different sectors

  • What is the average seniority upon taking up a given position?
  • What is the turnover from one sector of activity to another?

So many questions that Scopeo was able to answer, by identifying the main trends and main lines of a data set. Scopeo analyzed a game of 250 profiles audiences on Linkedin and their 1,25 million professional experiences. In this third and final issue, we focused on turnover and seniority of different positions and areas of activity.

The dataset was created by going through public Linkedin profiles step by step: it is therefore not necessarily representative of the general population but rather of the profiles that are accessible to us.
No percentage displayed was calculated on a sample of less than 1000 people.

Let us be interested in Experiences profiles. On Linkedin, users provide an average of 4,5 experiences of average duration two and a half years each. Ile-de-France residents have a slightly different profile, with 5 experiences 6 months shorter on average.

The sectors

We are now interested in the duration of the experiments by activity area. *The chosen domains are pre-filled domain groupings on Linkedin (see the list at the bottom of the article).

This graph indicates the average duration of experience depending on the sector. The actors of secondary sectors, such as “Aviation, Aerospace & Defense” remain in post longer than those in the tertiary sectors, like “Arts & Sports”.

This graph shows a correlation between seniority and duration of experiments in the different sectors. The more senior the sectors, such as “Security & Military”, the longer the experiences.

Trades

These differences in experience are not only linked to the sector in which one works, but also to the activity who is practiced there. Some positions are occupied by young people during their first experiences, others are only accessible in end of career after years of experience. So what are the professions that require (or not) a lot of prior experience?

The bottom axis presents the cumulative duration of experiences before this post.

The “President” and the “Vice-President” have experience gaps important with other positions.

It is interesting to note that the “Chief Financial Officers” and “Chief Operating Officers”, recruited after the creation of a company, are on average older than the creators of these companies: the “Founders / Co-Founders”.

We can also see that the average duration of an experience varies depending on the size of the company :

We can note the following trend: the more the size of the company increases, the greater the average duration of experience, with the exception of a company managed by one person. Larger boxes have better job stability.

Conversely, small boxes seem more conducive to separating sooner and having a turnover most important.

Thanks to the rapid study of a dataset, Scopeo was able to understand the main trends followed by the profiles: sectors, experiences, skills, etc.
